2006-2007 Update
LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF LIVINGSTON LOCAL PROGRAM
2004-2005 (Update 2006-2007)
1. EDUCATION
A. Support measures to enable the Board of Education to operate in a more
responsive and efficient manner to achieve the highest quality public education
possible while being fiscally responsible.
B. Support measures to encourage the Board of Education school administration,
the state, and the community to understand the concept of individualized
education and its applicability to the Livingston School System.
2. RECREATION
A. Support and implement policies and programs designed to provide adequate
and flexible recreational facilities to meet the needs of all Livingston
residents.
B. Take action on and monitor specific recommendations for the town*s
proposed development of public recreation facilities and areas.
3. MASTER PLAN
A. Support those areas of the Master Plan of Livingston which benefits the
community, incorporates good environmental standards providing guidance
for future development, including smart growth.
B. Evaluate Master Plan revisions.
C. Take action to promote changes in the Master Plan that would call for
a regional approach to transportation and water supplies and monitor and
ensure preservation of open space.
D. More recreational facilities, provision for senior citizen housing and
zoning to allow for a greater diversity of age, physical disabilities and
economic levels and monitor and insure preservation of open space.
4. FOCUS ON YOUTH
A. Evaluate and support measures to meet the needs of youth with a healthy
community culture.
5. TRANSPORTATION AND TRAFFIC
A. To promote or work in coalition with other groups to improve intra and
inter- community transportation and traffic systems.
6. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
A. To support solid waste educational programs and recycling efforts and
to support efforts to supply adequate sewage facilities for town needs.
B. Support efforts to achieve clean water and promote water conservation
and protect natural resources.
C. Support efforts to preserve, protect, and add to open space.
7. LOCAL GOVERNMENT
A. To continue to monitor the level of compliance of town bodies covered
by the Open Public Meeting Act.
B. To educate the community on the operation and functions of local groups
covered by these laws.
C. Support and implement measures to increase communication between citizens
and governmental bodies.
8. LIBRARY
A. Encourage and support continued improvement of the Ruth L. Rockwood
Library to meet the needs of the community.
